/AND YOU are CALLING ME COLOURED?

IT'S A STORY,

A STORY OF YOU,

A STORY OF ME,

A STORY OF US ALL!

IT'S A CELEBRATION OF US -

OF HUMANKIND.

Differently the same, Uniquely the same

The world will blossom only when we all will not only tolerate, but actually celebrate the differences between each other. People need different things in life. Beyond the basics, some people need extra portions of respect, others affection, while some people cherish autonomy and independence. Celebrating differences provides the opportunity for each individual within our communities to secure, without conflict, what he or she wants or needs.

‘AND YOU are CALLING ME COLOURED’ simply started as an idea for a short film, but now it has expanded as a global campaign to not only encourage us to tolerate, but actually celebrate the differences between us all.

The story idea comes from a poem written by a Nigerian child more than 20 years ago. This brilliant poem was been recognized as the poem of the year in 2006 by the United Nations. The poem is based on differences between white people and black people, but Kellman Productions has delved deeper with this concept and has expanded it as a global celebration of mankind using colours signifying differences in us all.

Colours hold importance for people around the world. Not only colours do influence emotions, but they also hold meaning in most of the cultures around the world. What do certain colours mean and why are they associated with different things in various areas of the world?

Why red is the colour of passion, anger and love in the Western areas, but in South Africa it’s a colour or mourning? Why pink is associated as very feminine in Europe and elsewhere, but in South Korea it’s a colour of trust? Why yellow is the colour of aristocracy in Japan, colour of sadness in Greece and also the colour of jealousy in France?

It’s the same colour, but it’s limited to certain rules and conditions … - the same with people. Humans tend to label each other by clothes, education, nationality, race, sexuality, religion, etc., but at the end of the day we all are under the same sun, the same moon and we all start our lives from a connection of 2 people – so we all are different but the same.

Differently the same, Uniquely the same
